Propagation Methods Of Cactus

Leave a message

Propagation methods of cactus include sowing and cutting. For home-grown cacti, asexual propagation is mostly used, i.e. division, cutting and grafting.
Division
Most cactus flowers are very easy to divide into seedlings or bulbs. Pulling out the seedlings or bulbs and planting them separately will easily survive. For some varieties that are not easy to divide into bulbs, the cutting method can be used to force them to reproduce bulbs. That is, the upper part of the mother plant stem is cut off (the cut part can be used as cuttings for grafting or cuttings), so that it loses the upper growth point and can no longer grow upward. Strengthening water and fertilizer management can grow new bulbs.
Cutting
For home-grown cacti, most of them are propagated by cutting, with a very high survival rate. Cutting time can be spring, summer or autumn. Cuttings should be made from stems that are neither too old nor too young. After cutting the stems from the mother plant, place them in a semi-shaded and ventilated place to dry for 5-7 days. When the cut is dry and the cortex shrinks slightly inward to form a thin film, cuts can be made. The length of the cuttings should be 10 cm and the depth should be 3 cm. Insert them into sterilized sandy soil and water them after a few days. Just keep the soil slightly moist to prevent the cuttings from rotting. Cactus usually takes root 20 days after cutting.
