Form and Size: This cactus typically forms a solitary, globular to slightly cylindrical stem that rarely exceeds 6 cm (2.4 inches) in height and about 3 cm (1.2 inches) in diameter. The body has a blue-green or gray-green hue, with a series of low tubercles rather than prominent ribs.

Spines: The spines of T. pseudopectinatus are thin and short, arranged in a distinctive comb-like pattern that lies flat against the plant's surface. These spines can be white to pinkish, adding to the cactus's delicate appearance.

Astrophytum asterias cv. Superkabuto V type Cactus Special Care or Planting instructions

  • Light

Sufficient sunlight: It likes sufficient sunlight and needs to be placed in a position with direct sunlight, such as a balcony or windowsill. In a full-sun environment, the plant will grow better and is also more conducive to its flowering and showing a good form.
Moderate shading: But in the high-temperature period in summer, especially when the temperature exceeds 28℃, appropriate shading is needed to avoid the sphere being sunburned by strong sunlight. It can be placed in a well-ventilated place with scattered light.

  • Water

Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. In the active growing season (spring and summer), water approximately once every two weeks, adjusting for your local humidity and temperature. Reduce watering in the winter to allow the cactus to go dormant.

  • Soil

Soil quality requirements: It is suitable to grow in well-drained sandy soil rich in calcareous substances. You can use large-grained planting materials such as akadama soil, pumice stone, and zeolite, and add some small-grained media such as perlite and peat to improve the water retention and nutrient content of the soil. The proportion of each medium can be adjusted according to the actual situation. Generally, large-grained planting materials account for a relatively large proportion, and small-grained media account for about 10% - 20%.
Regular soil replacement: As the plant grows, the nutrients in the soil are gradually consumed and the air permeability will also decrease. It is recommended to replace the potting soil every 3 - 5 years to maintain the fertility and good air permeability of the soil.

  • Temperature and Humidity

Ideal temperatures are between 50°F (10°C) and 90°F (32°C). This cactus does not tolerate freezing temperatures well, so it should be brought indoors or protected if grown outdoors in cooler climates. Low humidity is preferable.

  • Fertilizer

Feed with a diluted, balanced cactus fertilizer once at the start of the growing season to support flowering and growth, but avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to unnatural, rapid growth.

  • Propagation

Propagation is primarily through seeds, as offsets are uncommon. Seeds should be sown in a well-draining, sterilized medium under warm, humid conditions for germination.

  • Slow Growth

The Superkabuto V type is a slow grower, making it a great choice for those with patience. Its unique patterns tend to develop more prominently as it matures, adding to its visual appeal over time.

  • Water Sensitivity

This cactus is sensitive to overwatering. Be cautious, especially during cooler seasons, to avoid root rot.
