Pilosocereus purpusii Cactus Special Care or Planting instructions

  • Watering

Pilosocereus purpusii tolerates drought and only needs to be watered thoroughly when the soil is completely dry. Water once a week from spring to fall; reduce to once every two weeks in winter. Rainwater or distilled water is recommended to prevent soil compaction.

  • Fertilization

Fertilize once a month with a liquid fertilizer during the growing season (spring, summer and fall); no fertilizer is required in winter. A slow-release fertilizer can be used when repotting.

  • Pruning

Prune in early spring to remove dead or damaged parts, using sterilized tools. Pruning helps to enhance air circulation and light penetration, promoting plant health.

  • Propagation

The main propagation methods of Pilosocereus purpusii include division and grafting. Division is achieved by cutting and replanting, while grafting is done by placing the cactus on a root stock, fixing it until they are fused and then removing the ties.

  • Soil

Pilosocereus purpusii prefers well-drained soil with some organic matter.
