Euphorbia trigona plant Features

Stems:

The plant features tall, slender, green stems with three to four distinct sides or ridges. The stems are typically adorned with small, tear-shaped leaves that grow along the ridges, and the edges of the ridges are lined with small, sharp thorns.

Leaves:

The leaves are small, oblong, and typically grow in pairs along the ridges of the stems. They are bright green, sometimes with a reddish tinge, especially when the plant is exposed to bright light.

Branches:

The stems often branch out, creating a candelabra-like or cathedral-like shape, which is how the plant earned its nicknames.

African milk tree Plant Size:

  • The African Milk Tree can grow up to 6-8 feet (1.8-2.4 meters) tall when grown outdoors in suitable conditions. Indoors, it typically reaches about 3-6 feet (0.9-1.8 meters) in height. It has a fast growth rate and can become quite large over time.

African Milk Tree Special Care or Planting instructions

  • Light

The African Milk Tree prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some direct sunlight. It thrives in sunny windows indoors or in outdoor locations with filtered sunlight. Too much direct sunlight can cause the leaves to scorch.

  • Water

Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is a common issue and can lead to root rot. During the winter months, when the plant is dormant, reduce watering even further.

  • Soil

Requires well-drained soil, such as a cactus or succulent potting mix. It does not tolerate waterlogged soil, which can lead to root rot.

  • Temperature

Prefers warm temperatures and does well in typical indoor temperatures. It is not frost-tolerant and should be kept indoors or brought inside during cold weather in temperate regions.

  • Propagation

The African Milk Tree can be easily propagated from cuttings. When taking cuttings, allow the cut end to dry and callous over before planting it in well-drained soil.
