Leaves: Usually, the leaves of Anthurium plants have certain ornamental value. Their leaves may be in different shapes such as heart-shaped, oval-shaped, or lanceolate-shaped. The texture may be relatively thick and shiny, and the color is mostly green, but the shade of green may vary. Some may be dark green, while others might be light green, and the surface may be relatively smooth.

Anthurium valera Special Care or Planting instructions

  • Light

Place "Anthurium valera" in a position where it can receive sufficient diffused light, such as near an east-facing or north-facing window sill indoors, or use a sunshade net and other facilities to create a semi-shaded growth environment outdoors for it, ensuring that it can receive several hours of soft light every day.

  • Temperature

Pay attention to adjusting the temperature in different seasons. In winter, take good warming measures. Move the plant to a warm and temperature-stable place indoors, and try to keep the temperature above 10°C. In summer when the temperature is high, reduce the temperature around the plant through shading, ventilation and other means to avoid the adverse effects of high temperature on the plant.

  • Humidity

To maintain the appropriate air humidity, various methods can be adopted. For example, frequently spray water mist around the plant, use a humidifier to increase the indoor air humidity, or place the plant on a tray filled with water and stones (but make sure the bottom of the flowerpot does not directly touch the water), and increase the surrounding air humidity through water evaporation.

  • Watering

Follow the principle of "watering when the soil surface is dry". That is, wait until the soil surface is dry before watering, and water thoroughly so that the water fully penetrates into the soil, but avoid waterlogging, because waterlogging may cause root rot. The watering frequency will vary depending on factors such as season and environmental humidity. Generally, more frequent watering may be required during the growth season, while the watering frequency should be reduced during the slow growth period such as winter.

  • Soil

Select loose, breathable and well-drained soil. You can mix peat soil, perlite, vermite and other materials in a certain proportion to prepare the soil. Such soil can not only ensure good ventilation and drainage for the roots, but also provide a certain water retention capacity, which is beneficial to the growth of the plant.

  • Fertilization

During the growth season, apply a thin liquid fertilizer or slow-release fertilizer once every 1 - 2 months to provide the nutrients required for the growth of the plant. When fertilizing, pay attention to evenly spreading the fertilizer on the soil surface, and then gently water it to make the fertilizer gradually penetrate into the soil, avoiding direct contact between the fertilizer and the roots to prevent root burning.
