Gymnocalycium denudatum cv kiomaru Cactus Features

Shape: The plant has a globular, slightly flattened shape, typical of Gymnocalycium species. Its ribs are smooth and rounded, with minimal to no spines, which is characteristic of the **denudatum** species and its cultivars.

Ribs: The plant has around 5–8 broad, well-rounded ribs. The areoles along these ribs are large but often lack prominent spines, giving it a clean, smooth appearance.

Spines: In the Kiomaru cultivar, spines are often short or absent, which enhances its smooth, sculptural form. If present, the spines are soft, thin, and typically pale in color.

Body Color: The body of the cv. Kiomaru is typically dark green, although color variations might exist depending on growing conditions. Cultivars may sometimes have a slightly different hue than the standard species.

Flowers: One of the main attractions of Gymnocalycium denudatum is its large, showy white flowers, which emerge from the top of the plant in late spring or summer. The funnel-shaped flowers are fragrant and can reach up to 5 cm (2 inches) in diameter. In some cases, the flowers may have a slight pinkish hue.

Gymnocalycium denudatum cv kiomaru Cactus Size:

Gymnocalycium denudatum cv kiomaru Cactus Special Care or Planting instructions

  • Light

This cactus prefers bright, indirect sunlight or partial shade. While it enjoys sunlight, too much direct exposure, especially in hot climates, can lead to sunburn. Indoors, a bright windowsill with filtered light works well.

  • Water

Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. During the active growing season (spring and summer), water more frequently, but reduce watering significantly in fall and winter when the plant becomes dormant.

  • Temperature

Gymnocalycium denudatum is not frost-hardy and should be kept in temperatures above 10°C (50°F). It thrives in warm conditions, ideally between 20–30°C (68–86°F), and should be protected from cold drafts or freezing conditions.

  • Soil

Use a well-draining cactus mix with added perlite or pumice to prevent water retention. Good drainage is key to avoiding root rot.
