Mammillaria Plumosa cactus Special Care or Planting instructions

  • Light

Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate full sun, especially in cooler climates. However, in very hot climates, some protection from the intense midday sun is recommended to prevent sunburn.

  • Water

Like most cacti, Mammillaria plumosa should be watered sparingly. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. In winter, when the cactus goes dormant, reduce watering significantly. Overwatering can cause root rot and kill the plant.

  • Soil

Needs well-draining soil, such as a cactus mix or a combination of regular potting soil mixed with sand or perlite. Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.

  • Temperature

This cactus prefers warm temperatures, ideally between 65°F and 80°F (18°C to 27°C). It can tolerate brief periods of cold, but should be protected from frost, as temperatures below 40°F (4°C) can be harmful.

  • Propagation

Mammillaria plumosa can be propagated easily through offsets, which form naturally around the base of the plant. These offsets can be removed and replanted once they have developed enough to survive on their own.
