Form:
The Blue Candle Cactus is a large, highly branched cactus that resembles a candelabra when mature. It has a blue-green, smooth, fleshy stem with few, short spines.

The stem can be up to 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter, with 5-8 ribs.
Spines:
Along the stem, there are 5-9 black radial and central spines.
Flowers:
In summer, it produces greenish-white flowers, about 1 inch (2.5 cm) in diameter.
Fruit:
It is followed by dark red or blue, very sweet, oblong fruits, about 1 inch (2.5 cm) in diameter.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9a to 11b, tolerating short periods of temperatures down to 25°F (-4°C).
