Parodia schumanniana cactus Features

Appearance: Parodia schumanniana starts off as a globular cactus but can grow into a columnar shape as it matures. It can reach up to 1 meter (3 feet) in height in cultivation, but in its natural habitat, it may grow even taller.

Ribs: The cactus has numerous, well-defined vertical ribs (about 15 to 20), with areoles (small raised spots) from which spines emerge.

Spines: It is covered in a dense array of sharp, yellowish to brown spines. These spines can range from 2 to 3 cm (about 1 inch) in length.

Flowers: One of the highlights of Parodia schumanniana is its large, bright yellow, funnel-shaped flowers. These blooms are typically 5–7 cm (2–3 inches) wide and appear during the summer months. The flowers form near the top of the cactus and are particularly eye-catching.

Fruits: After flowering, the cactus produces small, spherical fruits, but it rarely fruits when cultivated indoors.

Parodia schumanniana cactus Size:

  • Potted in a 12cm pot
  • The height of the plants and the flower pots can be made to your size.

Parodia schumanniana cactus Special Care or Planting instructions

  • Light

This cactus thrives in bright, indirect sunlight or partial shade. While it enjoys light, too much direct sunlight in very hot climates can cause sunburn, so it's best to provide some protection during the hottest part of the day.

  • Water

Water the plant sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. During the growing season (spring and summer), water more frequently, but reduce watering significantly in winter when the plant is dormant.

  • Soil

Parodia schumanniana prefers well-drained, sandy or loamy soils. A cactus potting mix with added sand or grit works well for cultivation.

  • Temperature

Parodia schumanniana is not frost-hardy and should be protected from temperatures below 5°C (41°F). It prefers warm temperatures in the range of 15-30°C (59-86°F), making it well-suited for indoor cultivation in cooler climates.

  • Ornamental

Parodia schumanniana is primarily grown for its attractive shape and large, showy yellow flowers. It is often used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens, container gardens, and cactus collections.

  • Easy to Grow

This species is relatively easy to care for, making it suitable for beginners as well as more experienced cactus growers.
