Devil's tongue cactus Features
Shape: The cactus has a round, barrel-shaped body with well-defined ribs, usually numbering between 13 and 23. The ribs are adorned with large, prominent areoles from which the spines emerge.
Color: The body of the cactus is typically a bluish-green to grayish-green color, providing a striking contrast to its red, reddish-brown, or yellowish spines.
Spines: The most distinctive feature of *Ferocactus latispinus* is its large, flat, and broad central spines, which curve backward into a hook shape, resembling a fishhook. These spines can grow up to 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) long. The radial spines are shorter, more slender, and often lighter in color.
Flowers: The cactus produces beautiful, funnel-shaped flowers that are typically purple to reddish-pink in color, though some forms may have yellow flowers. The flowers emerge from the top of the cactus, often during the late fall or early winter, making them a delightful feature during the cooler months. The flowers are about 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 cm) in diameter.

- Light
Needs sufficient sunlight. It is best placed outdoors or in a sunny location such as a windowsill or balcony. In summer when the temperature is high, appropriate shading can be provided to avoid sunburn on the sphere caused by direct sunlight.
- Water
It is relatively drought-tolerant. Watering should be appropriate to avoid water accumulation. Generally, water when the soil is completely dry. When watering, water thoroughly but do not let water stay in the bottom of the pot. Reduce the frequency of watering in winter and keep the soil dry.
- Soil
Needs loose and well-drained sandy soil. Special cactus soil can be used or sand, perlite, and other materials can be added to ordinary soil to improve the air permeability and drainage of the soil.
- Temperature
The suitable growth temperature is 15℃ - 30℃. In winter, pay attention to keeping warm to avoid frostbite on the sphere due to too low temperature. Generally speaking, the temperature is best kept above 5℃.
